A Brief History of the Church of God
From this seemingly insignificant origin has grown one of the most influential worldwide Pentecostal denominations. For nearly 120 years the Church of God has been a distinctive movement focused upon communicating the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Presently, the Church of God has a world-wide membership of over 6 million with a presence in nearly 150 countries. Leaders of the Church of God are recognized as some of the most respected Pentecostal leaders of today.

History of The Pointe The Pointe was organized on October 2, 1938 as Toccoa Church of God by John. C. Jernigan. At the organization of the church there were 19 charter members. As Toccoa Church of God, the church was located in
downtown Toccoa on Pastors serving the church at that W.H. Godwin, G.S. Scott, W.C. Cannady, Johnny Hanna, J.B. Cole, C. W. Butler, H.V. Fowler, J.B. Robinson, G.L. Herring, J. Paul Fowler, G.M. Chitwood, T.W. Waits, Homer Cantrell, Johnny Towns, John Webber, Donald Swords In the 1980’s property was purchased and a new church facility built at the current S. Hwy 17 location South of downtown Toccoa. Pastor Jerry Chitwood served as pastor and led the congregation through this relocation program. Also serving as pastor at the current location: W.C. Vaughan, Harlon W. Noles, Terry M. Addis Adding to the facilities in the early 2000’s was the construction of a family life center which features areas of focus ministry for music, youth, children, class rooms, offices, hospitality room, fellowship hall and kitchen, gym, coffee shop and game room. This addition to facilities came under the pastoral leadership of Harlon W. Noles. |
